The Railway Network covers the electrical engineering aspects of the promotion, construction, regulation, operation, safety and maintenance of railway, metro, tramway and guided transport systems.
The current thinking seems to agree that electric rail systems, powered by renewable energy, could dramatically reduce carbon emissions in transport. A series of IET lectures will be exploring renewable-based electric power in Scotland.
The IET Peterborough Young Engineers group are organising a trip to the National Railway Museum in York next weekend.
